Water + time = the Grand Canyon

There’s been big bang for the buck the past two days at IndieReCon, an “online writer’s conference for the independently minded,” which is, of course, free. My mind has been boggled by presenters like Bob Mayer, author of 60 books! Just when I’m feeling I might never reach numbers like that, I remind myself the Grand Canyon wasn’t built in a day.

Mosaic story, Hollywood and Highland Mall, 2011

One actress was presented an opportunity that came with a requirement. While only identified by occupation, artist Erika Rothenberg indicates the actress is Greta Garbo.

This story is part of Rothenberg’s highly praised 2001 permanent public art work, The Road to Hollywood. Rothenberg says these stories aren’t actual quotes, but based on research and interviews.

Things apparently haven’t change much in Hollywood since the days of Garbo. For his role as Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey lost nearly 50 pounds. For his efforts, McConaughey won numerous awards including those from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild and is nominated for an Academy Award and Independent Spirit Award.

Question: If your life story was seen in mosaic, what would it read?

Finishing feels good

On January 31 I completed two tasks. One was emptying the few remaining items from my 5’ x 5’ storage unit. There’s a good feeling associated with completing a major goal.

When was the last time you had a sense of accomplishment from finishing something? A marathon? Taking down Christmas decorations? A long over due letter? How did it make you feel?

Rockin’ 1952 country chic. Adorable, right?

Here I am on rockin’ 1952 country chic (thanks to wardrobe and makeup!) on the set of The Last Ride. The film, directed by Arkansas native Harry Thomason, chronicles the last days of Hank William’s life at the end of 1952. I was an extra in the “church scene,” where driver Silas (Jesse James) comes to seek assistance for “Mr. Wells”/Hank Williams (Henry Thomas) who has died in the car. I’m on the editing floor, but see it anyway. It’s awesome even without me:-)
